Street Girls

Abuja vice and redemption

Directed By Katie Mark

Street Girls is an intimate insight into the lives of three prostitutes from Nigeria’s vice-ridden capital, Abuja. The documentary follows the girls as they are arrested and taken to the country’s first ‘Women’s Rehabilitation Centre’. Once there they embark on a course, which they must complete, or face prison. The documentary captures the struggles of this journey. Will the girls make it, end up back on the streets, or locked up?

Director Katie Mark is of Nigerian descent, and creates short non-fiction films in New York for various organisations. She was previously a producer for Al Jazeera English news and for BBC London News and is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, New York.

Street Girls is currently in development and has been awarded funding by the WorldView partnership with Sundance Institute.
