We are delighted to announce that the IDFA WorldView Summer School Award has been granted to The Shore Break, by Ryley Grunenwald.
WorldView’s Marion Simpson said: “It’s great to be able to support such a talented filmmaker, with a poignant and dramatic story to tell.”
The film follows a family feud between two cousins who have opposing visions for their homeland on South Africa’s Wild Coast – Nonhle wants to protect traditional life and the magnificent landscape from mining, but her cousin Madib sees the development as a way to save one of the country’s poorest regions from poverty.
Grunenwald, left, said that the WorldView grant would help take The Shore Break to the next level: “This funding from WorldView has come at a critical time. Thanks to the WorldView IDFA partnership, I was able to attend IDFA Summer School where mentors helped me sharpen story development. The funds will now help us take the film to the next level and implement many of the things we learned at the Summer School. It means so much to us that IDFA and WorldView believe in The Shore Break, in supporting projects from developing countries and the power of documentary.”
The award was announced at the IDFA festival in Amsterdam on 24 November 2013.
